Tonkatsu Marugo

Worth waiting in very cold wind for about 20 min. I ordered the most expensive one with a bowl of rice. The first bite was already impressive. I highly suggest not to order a set, but the pork only.

Absolutely delicious. We got a recommendation for this spot from a local here and we’re glad we took the advice! My partner and I split a filet meal and the prawn meal. The meat was juicy and perfect. We could tell this was a local / long standing establishment and were so grateful that they took us so close to closing time. The service was fast and efficient and you can tell that the team truly cares for each and every guest. As a business owner myself, I love this level of care and it goes a long way. Definitely check out this spot if you’re staying in the Akihabara area!

After two years, I returned to this tonkatsu restaurant and noticed some changes. The fillet didn’t seem to rest sufficiently before being cut and served, so i have a soggy crispy skin at the bottom that was placed on the paper in the serving plate. We visited on a Saturday at 11:30 am and waited for an hour to get seated and finished our meal at 1 pm. Despite the wait, the service on the second floor was fantastic! The staff constantly refilled our tea and other drinks, which was greatly appreciated.

Wow I forgot to put a review for the visit almost a year ago. Never mind, the food was great. Located at akihabara so you have to e there early, at least 30 minutes on a week day. Took a while to wait for food but definitely worth every penny. You can just order anything confidently.

Visit Dates: October 2023; October 21st, 2025 Delicious Tonkatsu in central Akihabara. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this restaurant - it was extremely homey with beautiful tables. The Tonkatsu here was also delicious, especially for the price. The Food: Tonkatsu Marugo supplies high quality Tonkatsu at an affordable price. I'm generally someone who prefer Rosu over Hire, so I've ordered the prime rosu sets both times. The meat was tender and delicious - not of the absolute highest quality, but still very good. The panko/batter used a large crumb with a relatively thicker batter which results in a satisfying crunch with delicious flavor. The pork was cooked well - with the meat being tender and juicy. One thing I noticed was that because they use parchment paper underneath the Tonkatsu rather than a grate - it does start to get a bit soggy by the time you reach the last pieces. The Experience: The interior consists of two levels with the main kitchen being on the first floor. During both of my visits, I've sat upstairs which has multiple tables including a beautiful natural wood table that can seat multiple parties. The service here was impeccable - with the lady who served us being really kind and willing to answer any questions we had. There always tends to be a wait here - but the line moves at a steady pace. Both times I visited I only had to wait 15 - 20 minutes before getting seated, which isn't bad at all. Overall: Tonkatsu Marugo is a great option for those seeking delicious Tonkatsu meal. The service is wonderful, the restaurant is beautiful, and the food is great.

The chefs and staff are so lovely. There's always a small line but moved steadily along. Perfectly crispy. My favorite was the shrimp and my husband's was the prime cut. Both absolutely delicious.

This place is OUTSTANDING! The best tonkatsu I’ve ever had. It’s a small, quaint place with seating on the first and second floor. The staff is friendly, welcoming and attentive. The premium pork and shrimp are out of this world good! Somehow the breading is crisp and soft at the same time and doesn’t overpower the taste of the meat. We went on a weekday around lunchtime and there was a line already forming. It wasn’t a long wait, about 20 mins. It’s kinda tucked away but it’s worth the search to find it.
